When I heard of the upcoming release of a new Yolanda Sfetsos novella I was sold straight away. Then I saw the title. Could you get more creepy and unsettling? Luckily (and unsurprisingly) this tasty little tale certainly lives up to its name.
This novella was much shorter than I was expecting, or perhaps that was because the pages just flew by for me. After around a third of the way through I got my head around the pattern going on here. You see, the terrors (and there are many of them) are never far away. Just when a character reflects on something, when the scene is being set, it’s suddenly BAMM! here’s another scare for you. Great stuff.
Kae is the star here, a mother who’s teenage daughter disappeared 16 months ago. But Molly has mysteriously returned to town, and the circumstances are very strange to say the least. Molly isn’t the same kid she was. Returning from a supposed abduction in the woods she is a changed girl. She’s dead behind the eyes, uncommunicative, and now possesses some kind of superhuman mind control strength.
I’m not going to talk plot, but rest assured there be demons here found within.
This is a great offering from Yolanda, and I couldn’t get enough of it!
